Studio 124 brings together contemporary artists united by a commitment to engage, collaborate, transform, and evolve. Based in Livorno, its artists are both local and international.

In a time when physical, non-virtual spaces are becoming scarce, art seems to have drifted into the digital realms shaped by artificial intelligence. The only truly avant-garde gesture now is the pursuit of the creative act itself, rediscovered in “workshops” that, like tulip bulbs, have sprouted anew in the rich “compost” left by the Covid years. For many artists, this unexpected period served as a catalyst, prompting a surge of unique and individual expressions, often materializing in collaborative spaces.

Livorno, with its large community of artists, exemplifies this concept. As a city, it has fostered creativity since its days as a Medici port in the early 1600s. As a Free Port, Livorno was notable for welcoming all religions and avoiding segregation, attracting a vibrant mix of cultures. This alternative environment produced remarkable and distinctive figures, like Modigliani and Mascagni, who made their mark on early 20th-century art.

Today, my goal is to highlight the fresh voices emerging in Livorno, encouraging a new artistic movement that captures this period in history. Perhaps the moment has come to step away from the web and rekindle a quest for connection with art and each other in real, physical spaces.
